Abstract

This article explores the significant contributions of Is’hoqxon To‘ra Ibrat (1862–1937) to Islamic jurisprudence and education through his works and translations. As a prominent scholar, educator, and reformer, Ibrat advocated for the spiritual and intellectual enlightenment of Muslims by critiquing un-Islamic practices and promoting knowledge of Shari’ah principles. One of his notable achievements is the poetic translation of Lutfullah Nasafiy Kaydoniy's Fiqh-i Kaydoniy, an essential legal reference for Hanafi adherents, titled Nazmi Fiqhi Kaydoniy. Published in 1908, the work introduces foundational Islamic rulings such as fard (obligatory), wajib (compulsory), sunnah (tradition), and others in a systematic and accessible format. Ibrat tailored this treatise for use in Jadid schools, emphasizing simplicity and memorability to enhance students' understanding. The article further highlights Ibrat’s dual roles as a judge and educator. His expertise in Islamic jurisprudence enabled him to address complex legal issues, while his pedagogical reforms modernized education through phonetic methods and practical resources. Ibrat’s works reflect his dedication to merging traditional Islamic knowledge with contemporary educational needs, making his legacy relevant and inspiring even today.
